Animal rights activists are now going full-speed in raising their voices to save what is now being dubbed as the real-life “Dumbo” from the Phuket Zoo, Thailand.
Dumbo is a baby elephant that is being forced to perform for tourists at the Phuket Zoo where it is made to dance to loud music, play musical instruments, and perform tricks, according to the petition posted by the concerned activists at Moving Animals.
“When she is not performing, she stands on display for tourists, all while silently sucking on her trunk for comfort – a sign of distress seen when infant elephants are without their mother,” the petition wrote.
“No elephant should have to live in such heartbreaking conditions,” the post continues. “And ‘Dumbo’ deserves to spend the rest of her life in a place where she can feel happiness and peace.”
Pictures taken from the zoo show Dumbo’s skeletal body, which raised concerns that the poor infant elephant might also be suffering from malnourishment and exhaustion.
