‘Parasite’ Makes History With 6 Oscar Nominations Including Best Picture

“Parasite” continues to make history after becoming the first South Korean film to be nominated for best picture and best international film at the Oscars.

Directed by Bong Joon-ho, this critically acclaimed film brings the important conversation about class inequality into the mainstream media. The film is based in Korea and follows the Kims, a poor family, as they try to cope with their poverty through becoming con artists.

The film reeled in a whopping six Oscar nominations: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Foreign Language Film, Best Original Screenplay, Best Production Design, and Best Film Editing. Only about one week ago, the film also became the first Korean film to win at the Golden Globes for best foreign-language film.

The film was a massive box office hit, grossing over $25 million in the U.S. and over $132 million globally, as reported by NBC.

Currently, early talks are underway about an HBO limited series based on “Parasite”. The film will be a collaboration between Bong Joon-ho and Adam McKay, director of “The Big Short”.
