South Korean entertainment label P Nation issued a statement yesterday following the death of a Mongolian construction worker dismantling the stage at Psy’s “Summer Swag 2022” concert.
The worker was in his 20s and was employed under an outsourced agency tasked with the construction of the concert stage. He fell 15 meters (approximately 50 feet) on Sunday trying to take down a lighting tower at the Gangneung Stadium in Gangwon-do, South Korea, where Psy’s concert had taken place the day prior. The worker was rushed to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
“We express our sincerest condolences to the worker who passed away after a sudden accident. We also send our deepest condolences to the surviving family. We will do our best to establish measures to prevent another accident like this from happening, with a sense of responsibility,” P Nation said in a statement later that day.
The agency also stated they would take care of the funeral costs.
Psy’s “Summer Swag 2022” concert series, which will conclude later this month, is meant to be a celebration of Psy’s recently released star-studded album, led by the title track “That That” featuring BTS’ Suga. Unfortunately, the concert series may also be under investigation by South Korea’s Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters for allegedly spreading COVID-19.
Two months ago, P Nation debuted their first boy group, TNX. Last month, rapper Jessi departed from the label after three years. This year also marks the 10-year anniversary of Psy’s viral history-setting mega hit, “Gangnam Style.”
