Meet Ali Wong’s ‘Asian Unicorn’ Husband Justin Hakuta

When Ali Wong’s latest stand-up dropped on Netflix, my mother, 47, plunged onto the sofa, ordered her guilty pizza and sent me out to disappear for the next hour or two. There was no better way to spend Mother’s Day.

By the time it was over, she had interesting questions. Most were curiosities on motherhood stuff I was ignorant about, but I listened anyway.

For one, she wondered how Wong, who filmed “Hard Knock Wife” while pregnant with her second child, seemed to have so much energy that motherhood looked practically effortless.

But she also recalled one part when Wong goes into about sniffing her baby 26 times a day for soiled diapers, and how she, while telling her husband “till death do us part,” had never “sniffed his a** to check if he sh*t his pants.”

She then asked me, “Who is her husband, again?” Apparently, it’s the same question her amigas had.

For everyone else uninitiated, meet Justin Hakuta.

After a sense of “cosmic connection,” Wong and Hakuta married on November 27, 2014, and have since been spotted at countless events together.

He reportedly likes cooking for the family.

Hakuta, who is Filipino-Japanese, happens to be a successful entrepreneur. He is currently a vice president at a tech company.

Wong told The New York Times earlier this month, “I make fun of him a lot, but the truth is he’s a VP at a multimillion-dollar tech company.”

Happy Anniversary to the funniest, smartest and sessiest man in the world!

Interestingly, he is also the son of Ken Hakuta, an inventor and TV personality also known as “Dr. Fad.”

Dr. Fad hosted his own show that ran from 1988 to 1994, featuring kids’ inventions and promoting their creativity.

In November 2015, Wong and Hakuta welcomed their first baby, Mari, whose name was inspired by Japanese decluttering guru Marie Kondo.

Their second baby, whom Wong took to “Hard Knock Wife,” was born in January 2018.

Nobody please tell my husband how good looking he is. The man has NO IDEA

Apparently, Hakuta has been getting involved in Wong’s creative process, asking to hear jokes that include him before they’re a go.

“He’s an Asian unicorn; there’s nobody like him. I have to run jokes by him or I lose my marriage. That’s not worth a cool joke,” Wong said.

You ready Boston?

From the looks of it, Wong and Hakuta are definitely having a blast as parents to two lovely children!

Thank you Boston for 4 amazing shows. Now I must return to my glamorous life.
